Where to Go ~ More Places to Visit
Cameron Highlands has other interesting destinations to visit for sightseeing and shopping. For example, nurseries for flowers, plants and cacti are common throughout Brinchang and all the way down to the Blue Valley. In these places, visitors can enter for free and see a wide assortment of plants, shrubs and flowers grown.
Some of the more exotic plants you can get here include Venus fly traps and monkey pots (pitcher plants) while others tend to go for orchid blossoms, roses, carnations and hibiscus flowers. Many of the flowers found here are imported and grown in the Cameron Highlands, the only place cool enough to raise such plants successfully. Pitcher plants, venus fly traps and other carnivorous varities are a hot favourite for botanists.
Cactus plants are also popular shopping items. Surprisingly, for a desert plant, it is here in the cooling atmosphere of Cameron Highlands that they grow the best. Cactus plants in all sorts of shapes and sizes with different types of flowers and thorns can be bought in little pots for very cheap prices. A popular place to shop for these prickly plants is the Cactus Point just before Kea Farm, situated mid way along a steep road.
The tiny pots of cactus make good gifts for friends or relatives, and it's a hard plant to kill for most novice gardeners. While most of the flowers and plants in the farms along the main road cater for the local market, there are even bigger farms hidden in obscure areas far from the main road, often requiring a 4-wheel-drive vehicle to enter.
These farms grow flowers or plants for the export market but certainly has a different feel and look than the conventional farms outside. Other places you can check out include the Time Tunnel, a museum of sorts dedicated to the history of Cameron Highlands, or the many Indian and Chinese temples in Brinchang or Tanah Rata.
