Food is always an important element of any cultural holiday experience; at Tanah Rata and Brinchang, there are a good many restaurants to discover. The mostly Chinese people of Cameron Highlands love dining, so eating out for daily meals is an acceptable occurrence, not just an activity confined to visitors and tourists. Meanwhile, the ready supply of greens and other vegetables from surrounding farms provides a fresh (and deliciously worthy) complement or ingredient to any meal. For the best bargains, hunt for eating holes that Cameron natives haunt - usually, restaurants nestled among quieter shoplots at the back of town - away and obscured from the main road.

Chinese cuisine is undoubtedly the highlight here, but many visitors will throw themselves on local imitations of continental food, things like scones, strawberries and steaks, eaten in fancy cafes and mock Tudor restaurants, to keep up with the 'European' experience and climate. These can be found throughout town, among the shoplots, at upscale hotels, luxury resorts and tourist attractions, such as tea plantations and parks. Brinchang and Tanah Rata have the largest number of restaurants by virtue of being primary townships, but you can also find good local food at rundown establishments in Ringlet and Tringkap. Finally, the markets in Kea Farm and Brinchang are excellent snacking grounds for traditional hawker stall food, cooked and served on the spot. |
